Mackie was employed by Wellman Industries as a department supervisor for over 30 years. His work career included 5 years at Coastal Construction and 10 years at the Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center where he retired in 2010. Mackie had a great love for music and playing the bass guitar.
